Pirathon

Barossa Valley, SA

-

Pirathon is an ancient word for pinnacle and we believe Shiraz is the pinnacle grape of the Barossa and that the north–western Barossa is the pinnacle sub-appellation for Shiraz. Grapes for Pirathon are grown by dedicated high quality growers in the Greenock, Moppa, Belvedere, Stonewell, Seppeltsfield, Koonunga and Ebenezer districts of the north-western Barossa.

Many of these growers’ families have been growing grapes here for generations. The grapes are traditionally handcrafted in open top fermenters and basket pressed before maturing in barrel. Each vineyard adds its own exclusive dimension and combined they produce the ultimate blend. “ Matured in a mix of American, French, Russian and Hungarian oak, without fining or filtration. Has quickly developed a reputation as one of the best value Barossan reds on the market. Style and substance in an easy-to-like package. It’s an excellent example of what the Barossa does so well.” – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

Made by ‘The Kalleske Boys’ the Bluemark wines are a reflection of the site where they’re grown and an expression of the season, conceived in the vineyard and crafted through judicious winemaking.

It was a cool year when some cool growers approached a cool winemaker and said “how ‘bout making some cool wine?” “Cool” we said, “cool” they said and away the project went. The wines were made and quietly slumbered in barrel until the time came to meet the bottle. Then a cry was heard “what’ll we call it? Strewth we had better come up with a cool name. I reckon Blueprint” said one scratching his head, “let’s Trademark that” said another with a glint in his eye, then the older and wiser of the group cracked a big smile and shouted “Bluemark” and so the name for the wine was born.
