Viniculture has a long tradition in the Nigl family. For centuries they have made wine, always linked to agriculture. Since 1990, the family has dedicated itself entirely to the process of winemaking.
Martin Nigl has always been convinced that quality winegrowing is the future:
“On our steep locations, you can only survive with top quality.”
For this reason, numerous terraced areas in the Senftenberg Piri location, some of which had been abandoned for decades, were recultivated and planted with Riesling.
The vineyards of the Nigl family extend from Senftenberg to Krems. The narrow valley along the Krems river is one of the cooler winegrowing regions of Austria. But that is exactly what makes it so special and optimal for producing high-quality wines. The wines are characterised by the weathered primary rock soils and the microclimate of the Krems Valley. Terroir notes in a variety of forms are constantly recognized and enjoyed as stylistic elements of Veltliners and Rieslings: each one of high quality and at the same time individual, a single piece crafted by hand, so to speak.
Their Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners represent top quality from Austria:
wines rich in elegance and finesse from Kremstal.

“The trick is to create a perfectly balanced wine, bringing everything from the vineyard unscathed to the bottle:
fruit, finesse, elegance, density and minerality.” – Martin Nigl

2021 Nigl Grüner
Veltliner ‘Freiheit’
Inviting aroma of yellow apples, slightly creamy, delicate fruity style, lively, well-balanced acidity, pleasant character, piquant-spicy mineral notes in the finish.
2021 Nigl Grüner
Veltliner ‘Pellingen’
“What a breathtaking bouquet of orange blossom, ripe melon and fresh basil, as well as the more conventional gruner veltliner aromas of white pepper and ripe yellow apple. With every swirl of the glass, it becomes more complex and exciting. On the medium-bodied palate, this bowls you over with its concentration and vitality. Super-long finish that’s balanced on the point of needle.”
