Mars Tsunuki Aging Single Malt 2022
50% alc./vol.
LIMITED
Tsunuki Distillery is the second distillery of Mars Whisky and is in the Kagoshima Prefecture in the south of Japan, and was built in 2016. The location of this distillery is also the birthplace of their business Hombo Shuzo Co. more than 100 years ago.
The name tells you this single malt is distilled and matured at Tsunuki, and this is its 3rd release after Tsunuki The First and Tsunuki Peated.
Beautiful pure water is used, and the natural environment with day and night-time temperature change has considerable and unique influence on this whisky.
The majority of this single malt was matured in bourbon barrels. It has an amber colour. On the nose, there’s a fresh sweetness such as lemon cake, black tea and a whiff of smoke at first, followed by cacao, azuki beans, buttered toast and milk candy. Bitter and sweet fruitiness like Orangette on palate, and the finish is long and complex with generous sweetness. This whisky is non-chill filtered to enhance the flavours.
Mars ‘Twin Alps’ NV
40% alc./vol.
Mars Shinshu distillery is located near Mt. Komagatake and is at the top peak of the Kiso mountain range of the Japanese Alps in Nagano Prefecture at around 800m above sea level.
Groundwater from 120m below is used for whisky making and the distillery is surrounded with beautiful clean air.
This whisky is called ‘Twin Alps’ to acknowledge that distillery is located between the central and southern alps.
A rich golden colour, it is an aromatic whisky. Soft mountain water creates a very smooth texture. Soft, smoky and woody characters from casks and an added fruity sweetness make this whisky very approachable.
Great to serve with ice or make your own Japanese cocktail!
