TENUTE DELLA FAMIGLIA CECCHI

The wines of Famiglia Cecchi come from the bewitching region of Chianti with its rolling hills, wonderful chestnut woods and romantic castles connected by avenues of cypress. This is Tuscany in all its glory, home to one of the Cecchi family’s most famous wine estates.

The story begins back in 1893 with Luigi Cecchi. A local man with an excellent taste in wines, known as a professional enologist, begins sharing his knowledge with his family. From then begins their established reputation as experts of wine. It is not till the 70’s that the family moved to their base in Castellina, Chianti to begin producing wines. Between the end of the ‘80s and the beginning of the ‘90s, they chose to confront itself with different territories in San Gimignano, Maremma, Montepulciano and Montalcino and most notably in the famed Chianti Classico region, from where some of their most prized wines come from, and by 2000 an estate in Montefalco too. Across the regions, their estate comprises around 80 hectares of land where they grow a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Colorino Toscano.

The Sangiovese grape grows on its gravelly loam, producing classic Chiantis with attractive deep reds and incredible structure. The estate champions sustainable winemaking and considers protecting the beautiful environment and landscape to be an important part of working in the agricultural sector. The land should be protected and farming should be respectful. Sustainability for them is not just agricultural but it is also an approach they take when looking to the future of winemaking. Working with new technology, allows them to minimise both energy consumption and natural resources, necessary during production. This outlook is laying down the foundations for future generations to continue producing outstanding wines.
