VOYAGER ESTATE

Nestled in the Stevens Valley of Wallcliffe in southern Margaret River, Voyager Estate is one of the region’s pioneering vineyards and a benchmark producer of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. First planted in 1978 and originally known as Freycinet Estate, the property adopted the Voyager Estate name in 1991. Today, it remains a second-generation, family-owned winery with a reputation built on meticulous viticulture, thoughtful winemaking and a deep connection to place.

The vineyard’s location is central to its identity. Stevens Valley’s gently undulating slopes, warm growing season and cooling maritime breezes provide ideal conditions for producing wines of balance, freshness and complexity. Every wine is 100 per cent estate-grown, made and bottled, allowing complete control over quality and ensuring a genuine expression of the vineyard’s terroir.

At the heart of Voyager Estate’s philosophy is a commitment to capturing a true sense of place. For more than two decades, the winemaking team has embraced a restrained approach that allows the character of the vineyard to shine through. Rather than focusing solely on varietal expression, the wines aim to reflect the nuances of site, season and soil, resulting in elegant, structured and authentic wines.

A defining milestone in the estate’s recent history has been its transition to organic farming. The process began in 2017, with the first vineyards certified in 2020, before full Australian Certified Organic status was achieved across the entire vineyard in 2023. According to the estate, this shift has enhanced the expression of terroir, producing finer tannins and greater savoury complexity in the wines.

Voyager Estate has also entered a new era of leadership. Winemaker Tim Shand joined in 2022 after a successful decade at Punt Road Wines in the Yarra Valley, bringing valuable experience and fresh perspective.
